Breast Milk Is Preferred For Babies Up To 2 Yrs Old

By Adam Brown

Though there are many reasons why a lot of mothers do not breastfeed their babies, there are more reasons why they should. Research have shown that breastfeeding is beneficial not to babies alone but also to the mothers and fathers as well. It has also been proven to offer significant benefits to the environment and the nation in general.

As human beings, we are designed to be fed with human milk and not with cow's milk. Cow's milk can offer babies health benefits but not as complete as what breastmilk can give. Milk that comes from mothers contains colostrum, a substance that is essential for the immune system development. There are also nutrients that can only be found in breastmilk, the ones that are essential for the baby's brain development.

Breastfeeding is not only a time for feeding but also a time for special bonding since the activity promotes intimacy between mother and child. Breastfed children at the same time have a lower rate for tooth decay and other diseases than those who are bottlefed.

Just like babies, mothers too can get a lot of health benefits from breastfeeding. Oxytocin that is released in the mother's body during the initial breastfeeding helps the uterus return into its original state. It also prevents hemorrhage. Aside from that, the risk for breast cancer and heart disease is also reduced through breastfeeding.

Dads should be happy about breastfeeding at the same time. Breastfed babies have lower risk for developing certain diseases while still infants and have little chance of getting sick even as they grow up. That means the daddies will not have to spend so much on hospitalization and medication.

The benefits of breastfeeding are not limited only to the parents and the baby. Breastfeeding benefits the economy and the environment as well. Since breastfeeding is a natural process, it cannot affect the environment in a negative way. On the other hand, feeding the baby with commercial milk involves the use of chemicals and other harmful elements that can destroy the environment. Breastfeeding also lowers the chance of babies to get sick and can therefore help every household to save on healthcare.
