Maclaren Strollers And Parenting Fundamentals

By Claire James

You need a license to drive a car, and to get this license you are taught the processes involved to drive a car, but sadly this is not the case with children. Newborn babies do not come with a manual as such so there are a few things you need to know about.

Bathing your baby: Until your baby's umbilical cord falls off one to two weeks after their birth, only give her sponge baths. A cotton ball or cotton swab dampened with alcohol can help to dry the umbilical stump or follow your pediatrician's directions. After the stump falls off, you can give him a bath in a sink or shallow tub.

Leaving the hospital: when you leave the hospital with your newborn baby you will want to make sure they are wrapped up nice and snug. Obviously you do this for the baby's comfort first and foremost but this is also to protect them from the elements like the sun and to keep them warm - new babies are not able to keep themselves as warm as you and I. If you are not carrying your child then I highly recommend looking at the Maclaren strollers range as they are the most highly respected brand and safety must come first with your baby.

Circumcision: This point is almost mute as now a days it is only because of religion that this is generally allowed to happen, but all the same it is a part of the process that is not often talked about, almost taboo - which is a sad endightment really. The reasons for it are to lower the risks of urinary tract infections and to eliminate just about any chance of penile cancer. There are no known long term emotional problems as a result of this operation

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS is something that many parents already know about but no one wants to talk about. Studies have shown that the causes and occurrences have been dramtacially decreasing over the years due to various measures that have been taken. Just make sure you always put your baby to sleep on his or her back, wrapped snugly and not too hot or cold.

Transporting your baby from the hospital and everywhere after that, it's all about comfort and safety. Make sure that the baby car seat has a cover and is fitted correctly for the safety of your new baby

You are more likely to suffer from SIDS if your baby is a premature baby, but this is something that is trending down and is almost no longer a major concern

The Umbilical cord is still attached for the first couple of weeks and so remember as discussed, that although the bathing process is one that should encourage the bond between mother and child, whilst the umbilical is attached extra care needs to be taken

Most important beyond all this serious foreboding is to enjoy your new baby! Remember that these moments will not last forever and soon you will look back and wonder what happened to the time- so enjoy and cherish this moment

Babies who occupy a home with a smoker are more likely to affected by sleeping conditions including SIDS. There are so many health risks associated with smoking, but on the subject of SIDS, if this isn't motivation enough to stop, then nothing is.

Some people say that sleeping with your baby can reduce the risk of SIDS, but the American Academy of Pediatrics disagree with this statement and go on to say that there is a greater risk of SIDS in babies who co-sleep. I also don;t recommend it on the basis that it is just another bad habit that you will eventually have to break.

Sleeping your baby on their back is the best way to reduce the risk of SIDS but If you have concerns, talk to your pediatrician.
